(More customer reviews)Bought this to swap out old dvd player in a Inspiron 1501 laptop. Very easy to remove, just remember to pop the tray out as though you were going to load a disc into your drive, leave it open, then shutdown your laptop. Makes it very easy to remove doing it in that format. Also remove your battery while replacing the drive, FYI.. Once replaced, booted up and works like a charm. When writing, does tend to make some noise, but not too bad. I did find that there is NO firmware, well, none that I can find, for the drive to upgrade too. That does bother me a bit, but to date no problems reading discs or burning to them. Of course if someone does find firmware upgrades that work with the drive, please post, would love to see. All in all if your looking for a dvd burner, and it's compatible with your laptop, go for it. Dual Layer is supported, but have yet to try on the drive.. Gave it 4 out of 5 stars, because the lack of firmware upgrades that most modern dvd writers now day's allow..
