(More customer reviews)I needed an upscaling player for my 37-inch HD television but didn't want to spend a lot of money. I also didn't want a $50 player that would only cause me trouble. After quite a bit of research, I settled on the DN798.
I'm never sure what to think about picture quality comments in reviews, but this rated well with Consumer Reports and seemed to be well-liked by reviewers. Even without adjusting my set or fine tuning the player, I'm very happy with this player. The closest comparison I can think of is that the movies look similar to the film-based movies available through Comcast's OnDemand.
The quality varies a bit from DVD to DVD, but there are a lot of factors in producing a good image. One that really stood out was The Simpson's Movie, but my nine-year-old version of Dumb and Dumber looked great as well.
Keep in mind that to upscale video and watch protected discs, which is just about anything purchased, the player must be connected using HDMI.
Other pros: Sound was great via coax digital, USB port right on front (goofy limitations in the manual, though), couldn't have been easier to set up.
