(More customer reviews)I purchased the SDVD8732 from a big box store for $99.99. I did not do any research on this because I just happened to see a stack. So much for the impulse buy.
I thought the price was right for an established electronics brand. I could not have been more wrong.
The first unit I purchased had a short so the second screen would not work. You had to constantly jiggle the wires to get a picture. With a two year old and a three year old in the back seat, unreliable entertainment is worse than no entertainment at all.
So, I took the first unit back to the store and bought a second unit. I took this one home and discovered that the car power adaptor was not in the box. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH.
I thought maybe I could call the warranty line to get them to ship the car adaptor to me. On the first call, I waited on hold for about 35 minutes until I was cut off. On the second call, I waited about 10 minutes before someone picked up. I think my call was likely routed to a call center in Asia judging by the thick accent. (I have had mixed experiences with these call centers, so I try to judge on actual experience rather than making blanket statements. However, I know a lot of people do not like these centers, so if you are one of these, do not buy this product since it appears you will have problems and you will have to call.)
After taking some information, the person asked why I was calling. I explained the situation. He said the product has a 30 day return warranty so I should just take it back to the store. There was no offer to ship the adaptor or offer any other assistance. Nice customer service.
The company that handles warranty issues is called Curtis International. I don't know their association with Sylvania, but I do know that Sylvania has not done itself any favors by having these folks handle their customer calls.
So, I will be taking the unit back to the store for my money back. I will inform the store that this is the second time I had to return it and I do not want to go for a third.
This product may have an attractive price, but buyer beware. You may be buying more hassle than you want. I am going to look at other brands. I may have to spend more, but I will be happy not to have the headache.
