Toshiba consistently makes excellent TV sets across their whole model line -- on a par with Sony but less expensive. One reason the picture on this set is so good is that it has a digital comb filter. A digital comb filter is essential for really good picture quality and all top performing sets have them, but few sets in this price range have one. Yes, the picture tube on this set is "only" 27", while sets 50" or larger are now available. But do you really have a room large enough to do justice to a TV larger than 27"? Most people find that a good 27" TV is quite large enough for their TV viewing room. And, if you are one of the lucky few who have a very large room which could really benefit from a larger set, this set would serve nicely as a second set with an excellent picture at a bargain price.

Toshiba's 27-inch 27A32 offers affordable quality. For starters, the FST Black picture tube presents an even flatter screen than Toshiba's popular Blackstripe tube, one that further reduces ambient light reflections and provides finer dot pitch and increased resolution. The increased viewing angle and improves linearity over standard tubes.
The 27A32's digital comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt). Advanced velocity-scan modulation also works to improve definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.
The set features stereo reception (with 2.5 watts per channel) and SAP (second audio program), which is often used to broadcast an alternate-language track. StableSound tames audio levels between programs and commercials.
A ColorStream component-video input provides the ultimate picture quality from interlaced component-video signals; standard composite-video inputs accommodate all DVD players and most other video sources. You get two sets of rear AV inputs (one with S-video), as well as one set of front AV inputs for easy connection with a camcorder or gaming console. A rear AV output lets you hook the set up with a surround receiver. The 27A32 also features GameTimer (which monitors the duration of viewing), V-chip parental controls, a sleep timer, and a glow-in-the-dark remote control that controls most manufacturers' VCRs in addition to the 27A32.
